VERA MCDERMOTT

Vera McDermott, 56, resident of rural Atlantic, died June 22 at St. Joseph's hospital in Omaha, NE.

Funeral services were held June 25 at the Roland Funeral Home with Rev. James King of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Vera McDermott, daughter of Laurence C. and Irene Moller Nelson, was born June 30, 1931, two miles west of Atlantic and was reared four miles north of Atlantic. She graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1948.

She married James McDermott on Mar. 6, 1940 at Atlantic. Following marriage, they farmed near Atlantic and she was employed for twelve years in respiratory care at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, James 'Mac" McDermott of rural Atlantic; a son, Jerry D. McDermott and wife, Rivalie of Des Moines; a daughter, Elaine Teague and husband, Steve of Atlantic; five grandchildren, Shana and Joni Teague, James, Shaun and Nichelle McDermott; her mother, Irene Nelson of Atlantic; two brothers, Robert L. Nelson of Atlantic and Dale L. Nelson of Ankeny; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Laurence.
