Samuel H. White was born in Charleston, West Virginia, February 14th, 1827, and died at his home in Anita, Cass county, Iowa, November 29th, 1909, aged 82 years, 9 months and 15 days.

He was the son of Nathaniel White and Mary Moles; his parents both passed away when Samuel and his siblings were young. He was one of nine children born to Nathaniel and Mary White; of his siblings; Woodford, Bluford and Elizabeth White stayed in Kanawha Co., VA now WV; Barsheba, Docia, Anna, Clayborn and Monterville White moved to Iowa, Clayborn then moved from Iowa to Nebraska and Anna and Monterville moved onto Idaho.

December 13th, 1849, he was united in marriage to Miss Deborah Amack, at Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and to this union ten children were born; three daughters and seven sons. Of his children, Tunis A. White lives of Clio, Wayne county, Iowa; Henry M. White lives in Dillion, Montana; Jerome H. White lives in McIntosh, South Dakota and Frank S. White stayed in Cass Co., and was a constant and faithful campanion of his aged parents, giving them every care and attention and contributing to their comfort and happiness in every way possible.

Mr. White came to Iowa in the spring of 1853, and settled in Jackson county. In the early part of the year 1875 he moved to Cass county, and located on a farm in Lincoln township, and which he still owned at the time of his death. A number of years ago he retired from the farm, purchased property and became a resident of Anita.

Samuel was very active in the community. On Febuary 2, 1877, the Lincoln Township electors met at the Center shcool house for the purpose fo organizing a cemetery association. The committee appointed Samuel S. King, Samuel Hamilton White and John Gilbaugh. Mr. Samuel White severed as president. Martin VanBuren Robinson, a cousin of Samuel White, offered part of his farm for the cemetery. The Lincoln Center Cemetery adjoins what is now the Scholl farm.

His death occured on the 76th birthday of his faithful and devoted wife, and had he lived until the 13th day of the present month, this worthy man and woman would have been married 60 years.
