Dec 7, 1939 - Carroll Daily - Dedham — Funeral services for Jacob Davis, 79, who died at the Wyatt Hospital in Manning Wednesday morning, will be conducted at the home of his niece, Mrs. Bess Emery, four miles west and one mile north of Dedham, at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. The Rev. J.D. Johnson, minister of the Methodist Church, will officiate, burial will be in Elba Cemetery.
Mr. Davis, who was an old settler of Carroll county, suffered a paralytic stroke at his home three miles west and one mile north of Dedham Nov. 29. He was taken immediately to the Wyatt Hospital, where he was again stricken Wednesday morning.
Born in South Wales, Aug. 19, 1860, Mr. Davis came to the United States with his parents in 1869. They located at Coal Valley, Illinois, from which place they moved to the old home farm three miles west and one mile north of Dedham in 1871. Mr. Davis spent the remainder of his life on this farm, where he was making his home with his sister, Miss Anna Davis, at the time of his death.
Surviving with his sister, Miss Anna Davis, are one brother-in-law, the Rev. J.W. Davis, of Dedham, two nieces, Mrs. Bess Emery, living half a mile west of the old homestead, and Mrs. May Allen of Viola Center, one nephew, Joy Davis, of Manning, and two cousins, Miss Jane Davis and Howell Davis, of Dedham.
