Dean Bradley Richardson passed away Saturday morning, May 25th, 2024 in West Des Moines, IA.
Dean Bradley Richardson was born October 27th, 1968 to John and Gail Richardson in Lake City, IA. Dean graduated from Lake City High School (1987) and Iowa State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science with an emphasis in Meat Science (1991). He later went to the Culinary Hospitality Institute in Chicago (CHIC) where he became a chef in culinary arts (1993). Dean pursued his passion by working in many restaurants as a cook and executive chef and even was an opening chef for numerous restaurants in Iowa, Colorado, Oregon, and California. He opened two popular restaurants of his own in the Des Moines metro, Phat Chefs and Ocean Grill. He continued his cooking pursuits while helping on the Richardson family farm, planting and harvesting corn and soybeans as well as helping with the cattle. Dean had two loves in his life, Shelly (Hornbeck) Ross (married 2003 - 2012) and Lanie (Ohmart) Richardson (married 2015 - 2023). Dean enjoyed catching up with his friends, spending time with his children, listening to music, and exploring new restaurants and food scenes. His hobbies included reading, fishing, and being an avid fan of the Iowa State Cyclones and the Denver Broncos. Dean is survived by his family and friends; his daughter Savanna Richardson; his sons Theodore and Jacob Richardson; his parents John and Gail Richardson; and his two older brothers Eric (Barb) Richardson and Curt (Teresa) Richardson.
