Donald Henry Mann
(November 8, 1927 - September 7, 2024)Surrounded by his loving family, Donald Henry Mann peacefully passed away to be with his Lord and Savior on September 7, 2024, at the age of 96. He was born on his grandparents’ farm NE of Pomeroy on November 8, 1927. His parents were Donald A. Mann and Marie (Behrens) Mann. Don attended country school though 6th grade and then went to town school in Pomeroy, graduating in 1945. He was confirmed in the Evangelical and Reformed Church, which later became First United Church of Christ, Pomeroy. Faith being important to Don, he served several times on the church council and in many other facets of his church. After high school, Don enlisted in the Navy. After boot camp at Great Lakes, IL, he served at the McAlester, Oklahoma Navel Ammunition Depot. He was honorably discharged in July of 1946 and became a member of the American Legion, having been a member for 79 years. Don returned home after his service to assist his father on the family farm and was a lifelong farmer. He married Darlene Aljets on January 8, 1956. They were married 68 ˝ years, and were blessed with three children: Diane, Denise and David. Don loved to tinker. He had many ideas about how to improve almost everything. A true problem solver. Another love was dancing to big-band music, which he and Darlene enjoyed for years. He is survived by his devoted wife, Darlene; his children, Diane (Tom) Reeck of Somerset, WI, Denise (Dennis) Siefken of Rockwell City and David (Carol) Mann of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Tyler Reeck, Austin Reeck, Matthew Siefken, Sarah Kingsley, Brian Mann, Beth Cutsor and William Mann; 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
