H. S. Olmstead and Lucy A. Monroe

Lake City Graphic, Lake City, Iowa
Aug 26, 1893

Married
On Tuesday, Aug. 22, 1893, at the home of the bride in Jackson township, Mrs. Lucy A. Monroe was married to Mr. H. S. Olmstead, Rev. J. J. Gardner officiating.

This is one of cupid's pranks that was a genuine surprise to everybody, excepting, possibly, the contracting parties themselves. Even the officiating clergyman was not let into the secret until the last moment. Rev. Gardner was called upon to perform a marriage ceremony "at Aunt Lucy Monroe's place," but he naturally supposed that it was a neice, or perhaps some young friend, of that excellent lady, whom love had prompted to demand his services, and not until the hour for the ceremony had arrived was he set aright in the premises. But all of Aunt Lucy's friends-and they are legion-unite in extending heartiest best wishes upon this happy occasion and in congratulating the groom upon his wise choice of a helpmeet.
Mr. Olmstead is not so well known here as his bride, but we are informed that he is a worthy gentleman and well-to-do farmer, late of Homer, Ia.

The wedding was a quiet one and the happy couple will at once settle down to the realities of married life on the place in Jackson township which has been the home of the bride for a number of years.
