Awarded Arrowhead for Participation in D-Day Invasion.
St. Wayne R. Ealy, son of Mrs. Agnes Ealy, 11 15th N.E., has been awarded the bronze arrowhead to wear on his European theater of operations ribbon, it was announced by headquarters of the 36th "Texas" division, in Germany. Ealy is a member of the 753rd tank battalion of the division.
The arrowhead was awarded for participation in the Saleron invasion when he made the D-day amphibious assualt, it was stated.
The 36th infantry division has seen action on 2 D-days: Italy and Southern France. To its credit are such battles as San Pietro and Cassino, the Rapido river and Anzio. It fought at Mountelimar, where the German 19th army was annihilated. It breached the powerful Siegfried line defenses at Wissembourg and completed 400 day of actual combat plunging through Germany and deep into Austria.
