Ernest L. Seeley, age 76, of Galva died Thursday, December 19, 1996, at Marian Health Center in Sioux City, following a sudden illness.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 23, 1996, at the Fratzke Funeral Home, Storm Lake, with Rev. David Swinton officiating. Burial was in Scandinavian Cemetery, rural Alta.
Ernest Leroy Seeley was born March 4, 1920, in Butler, Mo. He was raised by his step-father and mother, M. C. and Laura Seeley Grapevine. He attended schools in Galva. On August 7, 1938 he married Virginia Hobbs at Elk Point, S. D.
He owned and operated Galva Rendering Service in Galva for more than 50 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran and served in the Philippines during World War, he was also a long-time member of Post #454 American Legion of Galva.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sally in 1950; a grandson, Stan (Butch) Syndergaard Jr. and a son-in-law, Stan Syndergaard Sr.
Ernest's family includes his wife, Virginia, Galva; two sons; Phillip and his wife, Susan, Cherokee; and James and his wife, Julie, Schaller; three daughters: Betty Haselhoff and her husband, Armon, Schaller; Lois Syndergaard, Pocahontas; and Sherry Mills and her husband, Douglas, Linn Grove; a brother, Gene Grapevine and his wife, Deloris, Cincinnati, Oh.; a sister, Lucille Zupp andher husband, Val Gene of Washta; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.
