Ernest Alfred Christensen was born on February 11, 1904, at Soro Sjaelland, Denmark to Nels and Anna Kristensen. His parents and 8 brothers and sisters preceded him in death -- all in Denmark. One brother, Walter, of Lombard, Illinois, the only brother who also lived in the United States survived him

Alfred arrived in the United States on March 19, 1923. at the age of 19. He came immediately to Newell and became engaged in farm work and trucking. In 1937 he began farming on his own until retirement in 1972. He became a citizen of the United States in 1928 and was a member of the Nain Lutheran Church of Newell.

Alfred married Ellen McKee on September 1, 1932, at Butte, Nebraska. Born to this union was one son, Walter, on June 6, 1937, Alfred enjoyed his hobby of fishing, especially during his retirement years at their summer home in Spirit Lake. He died at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital at 1:00 a.m. June 8, 1976, at the age of 72 years.

Mourning his death are his wife Ella, son Walter, and daughter-in-law, Maureen and three grandsons, Clark, Dana and Chad as well as numerous friends and relatives
