Anna L. (Klokkenga) Flexsenhar, 98 years old, of Manchester, IA, and formerly of Winthrop, IA, died peacefully, Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, IA.

Anna was born November 6, 1926, at Hettick, IL, in rural Macoupin County at the home of her maternal grandparents, the daughter of Harm J. Klokkenga and Minnie Lavilla (Converse) Klokkenga. She graduated from Delavan High School and on March 20, 1949, she married Wayne “Bud” Lavern Flexsenhar at the Sand Prairie Lutheran Church in Green Valley, IL. In 1959 they moved to a farm in rural Winthrop, IA, where they raised their family. Anna and Wayne would later divorce. Anna was a homemaker for many years and later in life worked for Collins Radio Company in Cedar Rapids, IA. Anna often said her greatest accomplishment was raising her children and she was also a proud grandma, great grandma, and great great grandma.

Anna was a past president of the East Buchanan High School Band Boosters. She was an avid reader and active in her book club. She also enjoyed playing cards with her card club. Anna kept a large garden and loved to can all the vegetables it produced. Later in life she enjoyed word searches to keep her mind sharp. She was a member of the Hoover Wesleyan Church, rural Quasqueton, IA.

Anna is survived by five children, Carol (Michael) Mundschenk of East Dubuque, IL, Jan Bearbower of Vinton, IA, Alan (Doris Koch) Flexsenhar of West Des Moines, IA, David (Mary Beth Francois) Flexsenhar of Winthrop, IA, Jerry (Ann Koch) Flexsenhar of Winthrop, IA; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and one sister, Joann (Roland) Lundy of Pekin, IL.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter in infancy, Sue Ann Flexsenhar; three sisters, Doris Klokkenga in infancy, Marjorie Donley, Velma Schmidgall; and two brothers, Harm J. Klokkenga Jr. and F. Paul Klokkenga.

Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. – Friday, December 20, 2024, at White Funeral Home, Independence, IA, with burial at the Quasqueton Cemetery in Quasqueton, IA. Following the services at the cemetery, a meal will be served at the Fellowship Hall in Winthrop.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 19th at White Funeral Home, Independence, and will continue for an hour before services, Friday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The family wishes to extend thanks to St. Croix Hospice Care. You took care of mom’s medical needs and were there to assure her and her family of a comfortable transition and genuinely cared for us all.

Also, the family wishes to extend their most heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at the Good Neighbor Nursing Home in Manchester. We cannot adequately express our appreciation in how much care you gave us and our mom and treating us all as your own.
