Helen M. Fischels, 76, died Sunday morning, May 9, 1999, in People's Memorial Long Term Care Center after a short illness.

Survivors include three sons, Norman and Dale Fischels, both of Independence, and Raymond Fischels of Kitzengen, Germany; six daughters, Barbara Lindsay of Masonville, Donna Clayton of Sioux City, Theresa Corkery of Independence, Susie Alber of Hazleton, Marian Beckett of McDermott, Ohio, and Helen Temeyer of Manchester; and four brothers, Ted Schmitz of Independence, Matt Schmitz of Jesup, George Schmitz of Raymond and Fritz Schmitz of Norman, Okla. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, St. John's Catholic Church, by the Rev. Aloysius Vorwald. Burial: St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Reiff Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a rosary at 3 and vigil service at 7:30 p.m.
