Andrew Daily was born in New York on September 23, 1806. He married Sally Mariah Carpenter in Ohio and they had 10 children. After being in Illinois for a brief time, Andrew brought his family to Bremer County. Between 1854 and 1855 Andrew purchased land patents from the US government totaling 1164 acres. Andrew was an active member of the community, serving on the original board of trustees of the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Waverly, and was elected coroner twice. In 1855, Andrew, along with two other men, (Thomas Sewell and Henry P. Moore) bought a small plot of land to establish a burying ground (now Sewell Cemetery). The Waverly House Hotel was built by Andrew in 1865. It was the first large hotel and stagecoach stop in the Waverly area at that time, and is currently home to the Bremer County Historical Society, and on the National Register of Historic Places. Andrew Daily died on Sept. 27, 1871, reportedly one of the oldest residents in the county at that time. He is buried in Harlington Cemetery at Waverly, Iowa.
