John Hagemann, one of the progressive and successful native sons of Maxfield township, operating one hundred acres of excellent land on section 32, was born upon this property, October 12, 1874, a son of Fred and Dora (Knief) Hagemann, natives of Germany, the former born October 21, 1822. The parents were among the pioneers in Bremer county, the father having settled in Maxfield township in 1853. He died at Waverly, June 10, 1912, and is survived by his wife. Twelve children were born to their union as follows: William, who makes his home at Westgate, Iowa; Mrs. William Bartles of Fayette county, Iowa; Mrs. Theodore Stahl of Westgate; Henry of Blackhawk county; Herman of Waterlool the Hon. F.P. of Waverly; Charles of Maxfield township; John of this review; Ernest of Klinger, Iowa; Emma, who makes her home in Waverly; Mrs. Carl Grave of Waverly; and Dora, also of Waverly.

John Hagemeann was reared upon his father's farm in Maxfield township, acquiring his education in the district and German schools of the neighborhood. His entire active life has been given over to agricultural pursuits and he now owns the family homestead of one hundred acres on section 32. He has proved efficient and farsighted in the management of this property which he has equipped with a modern home, substantial barns and outbuildings and everything necessary for the operation of a model farm. He is regarded as one of the practical and progressive agriculturists of the vicinity and his success has been well earned and is always worthily used.

On the 7th of March, 1899, Mr. Hagemann was united in marriage in Miss Ella Myer, who was born in Jefferson township, this county, June8, 1876. She is a daughter of Geroge and Rose (Sebold) Myer, natives of Germany and pioneer settlers in Jefferson township, where the mother passed away and where her father still resides. In their family were six children: Mrs. Fred Clausing of Cedar Falls; a married daughter residing of Denver, Iowa; Rose, a resident of Waterloo, George of Jefferson township; Mrs. Hagemann, wife of the subject of this review; and Mrs. John Schoof, of Denver, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Hagemann have become the parents of three sons and three daughters; Raymond, whose birth occurred January 6, 1900; Floyd, born March 16, 1902; Luetta, born March 30, 1904; Alfred, born March 25, 1906; and Lezette and Rosette, twins, born April 16, 1912.

Mr. Hagemann is a member of St. Johns German Lutheran church of Maxfield township and gives his political allegiance to the democratic party. He was a member of the school board for five years and is now in the first term of his able service as township trustee. His interests have extended to many fields and his work has b een of permanent value in promoting the growth of his native township along many lines.
