Fortunato "Floyd" J. Biondi, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 7, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Madrid, where the family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the mass on Monday. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, south of Madrid.
Floyd was born the youngest of nine to Joe and Ida (Pagliai) Biondi on July 8, 1924, in Keota, Missouri, a coal mining camp that no longer exits. Floyd met and married Rose Marie Galetich on April 22, 1961 and to this union, two children were born, Joseph and Tina. Floyd was formerly employed with Sundstand Aeronautics in Ames and Woodford Manufacturing in Des Moines. After retiring, Floyd worked part-time at the Madrid Public Library. He enjoyed reading, playing cards and was a loyal pen pal to many childhood pals and countless relatives. Floyd was an avid MLB fan and especially loved a good Chicago Cubs game. He very much enjoyed his grandchildren, Gabrielle and Colby Hansen. He was often present at their many activities until his health no longer allowed him to attend. He frequently showed up early to their events to insure a front row seat. Floyd was their biggest fan and wasn't afraid to share it with whomever he was seated near.
Floyd was a member of St. Malachy's Catholic Church, a 56-year member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Vittoria Italian Lodge. His biggest joy in life was his family.
He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Rose Marie Biondi of Madrid; one son, Joseph (Grace) Biondi of Ames; one daughter, Tina (Mark) Hansen also of Ames; two grandchildren, Gabrielle and Colby Hansen; one step-grandchild, Diana Douglas; and many nieces and nephews. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and all eight of his siblings.
Memorial contributions may be made in Floyd Biondi's name either to: St. Malachy's Catholic Church or the Madrid Public Library.
The family would like to thank his physicians for the wonderful care he was given over the years and the caregivers at the Madrid Home and Mary Greeley Medical Center. Online condolences may be made at www.IlesCares.com.
