I checked the marriage book at the courthouse. The marriage records in those years had little information. Parents names were not a part pf the record. The marriage license was issued on 30 September 1871 to John A. McElwain and Ruth A. Green. They were married S. R. Griffith, pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The marriage record can be found on Marriage Book C, page 27, No. 530.... I checked the Cedar Falls newspaper but was unable to find any mention of this marriage the issue before the marriage date or for 2 weeks after the marriage date.
