VINTON: Shirley (Williams) Tumilty, age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, August 25, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton with Rev. Stephen Preus officiating. Interment will be held at Big Grove Cemetery rural Garrison. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until service time on Thursday, also at the church.
Shirley was born, on November 6, 1929, the daughter of Clarence L. and Emma (Stolte) Williams She grew up and attended country school near Garrison and High School in Vinton, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1948 On September 11, 1949, she was united in marriage to Raymond Tumilty in Vinton.
Shirley and Raymond farmed for many years. Shirley was the best farmhand Ray could’ve asked for. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a fabulous cook and homemaker. She was also an accomplished gardener. It was difficult to impossible to out-work Shirley.
She is survived by her children, Doug (Kathy) Tumilty, Dwight Tumilty, Deb (Bill) Garbers; grandchildren, Renee (Brian) Sadler, Robyn (Ted) Oberhauser, Rachele (Ted) Steffens, Braniff (Carlee) Tumilty, Brittney (Dan) Carpenter, Tiffnie (Curt) Lamont, Tiernie (Brad) Kluver; great-grandchildren, Katie (TJ) Davison, Emily (Matt) Gorkow, Illian & Arden Oberhauser, Connor & Olivia Steffens, Madilyn, Mackenzie & Mason Tumilty, Gavin Lueck & Maddox Carpenter, Lillie, Carter & Lincoln Lamont, Abram & Eden Kluver; great-great-grandchildren, Lacy & Ruby Davison, Will & Ryan Gorkow; step-grandchildren, Shannon (Misty) Mahr, Hayley (Jeff) Rippel; step-great-grandchildren, Dylan, Tyler & Chase Rippel, Nathan Mahr; sister, Virginia Ferguson; sister-in-law Rosemaree Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond in 2005; brother Kenneth Williams, and sisters, Delores Brown, and Darlys Michael.
Shirley’s family wishes to thank Pastor Preus for his many visits and also the Lutheran Home for taking such great care of our mom. We also want to thank Hospice Compassus for their professional and loving care.
