Hold Rites For Former Brayton Area Farmer
Funeral services for Eric C. Christensen, 83, of Elk Horn, retired Brayton farmer, were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Brayton Lutheran Church, with Pastor Martin Reed officiating. Interment was in the Oakhill Cemetery near Brayton.
He died Nov. 22 at the Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan. For the last three years he had been living at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn.
The son of Andrew J. and Karen Marie (Pedersen) Christensen, he was born Oct. 13, 1899, south of Atlantic and was baptized at home and confirmed in the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. He joined the Brayton Lutheran Church 50 years [ago] and served on the church board and as president.
Mr. Christensen was married to Lizzie Andersen March 18, 1922, and they farmed for 50 years three miles west and a mile north of Brayton. They lived in Brayton for six years and he served as a member of the city council and as mayor. He also served on the Audubon County Farm Bureau and was a representative of this bureau in Washington, D. C., several years ago.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Lorraine) Lykke of Auduobn [sic Audubon), Mrs. Lyle (Erma) Larsen of Brayton and Edna Egon of Buffalo, Minn.; a son, Emmert Christensen of Gove, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Shahan of Marne.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mrs. Fred (Agnes) Christensen; and two infant sisters.
Casket bearers were Harold and Glee Christensen, Merle and Richard Hansen, Myron Larsen and Lyle Jeppesen.
