Died in Audubon--------
Peter Rubel Had Been Resi-
dent of County for Over
Fifty-Six Years--------
Peter Rubel, 84, prominent retired
fo(a)rmer, died Thursday evening at his
home in Audubon. Death resulted
from infirmities incident to old age.
Mr. Rubel had been in failing health
the last year and bedfast for the last
month. He was the father of seven-
teen children, thirteen of whom are
living.He was born in Bavaria, Germany,
Nov. 18, 1844, the son of Jacob and
Elizabeth Unger Rubel. He landed
in New York in Feb. 8, 1866. The
following fall he settled in Ogle county,
Ill., where he lived eight years
and then moved to Mahaska county,
Iowa. He resided in that county until
coming to Audubon county and locating
in Douglas township in 1883.
For many years he farmed in Greeley
township, retiring from the farm and
moving to Audubon in 1919.His first marriage was to Mary
Ehrenhart in 1872. To this union
six children were born, two of whom
are living. They are Mrs. Eddie
Waterman of Denver, Colo., and Miss
Tillie Rubel of Omaha. Mr. Rubel
was married to Amelia Sabel in Audubon
on Sept. 27, 1891, and to this
union were born eleven children, who,
with their mother, survive. The children
are Charles of Spencer, Mrs.
Mary Zinke of Exira, Alvin of Hamlin,
William of Brantford, N. D., Earl of
Atwater, Minn., Mrs. Minnie Kelly of
Audubon, Walter of Exira, Lewis of
Webb, and Lee, Lester and Glen, at
home. There are thirty grandchildren
and two great grandchildren.Funeral services were held at the
home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock
and at 2:30 at the Presbyterian
church. The Rev. Hugo Nieting of
Trinity Lutheran church in Lincoln
township. Burial was in Maple Grove
cemetery.Note: Parents of Peter Rubel were Jacob Rubel and Elizabeth Unger. Peter was married 1st to Mary H. Ehrenhart and 2nd to Emelia T. Sabel.
