GEORGE PAIGE
FUNERAL FRIDAY

Mr. George Paige, an old settler
and long time resident of Exira, died
at his home yesterday morning.

Mr. Paige has been in poor health
for a number of years and a few
weeks ago went to the Atlantic hospital
where he underwent an operation.
It was thought for a time
that he might recover but as time
passed it was apparent to all that
his days were numbered.

A few days ago he was brought
home in the care of a nurse who
gave him constant attention until
the end came Wednesday morning.

Although very low Mr. Paige sent
for an absent ticket and cast his
vote but passed away before the returns
gave the result of the election.

The old settlers are passing, another
has fallen. An affectionate
husband and father and a kind
neighbor has left us and gone to
his eternal rest where he will be
free from pain and sickness.

Funeral services will be held Friday
afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the
home. Interment in Exira cemetery.

George Paige Passed Away
Last Week. Had Been Ail-
ing for Sometime

George Paige was born in Dallas
County, Iowa, June 10th, 1849,
being the first male white person
born in Dallas county.

He has resided in Audubon County
fifty-six years and therefore was one
of the best known men in this vicinity.
On July 5th 1870, he was united
in marriage to Miss Susan Herrington,
and lived a happy continuous
life with the bridge of his youth,
for over fifty years, celebrating their
Golden Wedding Anniversary four
months ago. What a fine picture
such a happy union presents in contrast
to the frivolous and sinful,
customs of indiscriminate divorcing.

About sixteen years ago Mr. and
Mrs. Paige moved from their farm
in Greeley township to Exira, where
they have made their home ever
since.

Mr. Paige had submitted to an
operation for gall-stones in the Atlantic
hospital a few weeks ago and
was able to be moved home a week
before his death, which occurred
Wednesday morning, November 3rd.
He was improving nicely from the
operation until a hemorrage of the
bowels developed, which caused his
death.

On this side of eternity remain
to mourn the loss of this highly respected
citizen, his faithful wife, and
two children, Harry of Spokane,
Washington and Mrs. O. A. Anderson
of Arion, Iowa. Harry spent a
couple of weeks with his father
during his last illness and returned
to Washington only a few days before
his death. There are also two
adopted children, William Paige of
Cromwell, Iowa and Mrs. Rose
Sandburg of Los Angeles, California
besides nineteen grand-children and
three great grand-children.

He also leaves a brother, Malachi
Paige of Valley Ford, Washington,
and five sisters namely: Mrs. Ed
McMullen of Wanatchee, Washington;
Mrs. D. A. Lambert of Winthrop,
Arkansas; Mrs. Wm. Herron
of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Mrs. Ruth
Lambert and Mrs. Fred Reynolds
of Exira, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Friday
afternoon at the home conducted
by Rev. Shaw of Atlantic. Interment
was made in the Atlantic
cemetery.

husband and father; also for the
