Thank you, Jim. I know very little about Franklin or Frank, really. He was the brother of my great grandfather, Ignatious Henry Benson. Parents were John W. Benson and Emily Maria Maulsby. In the 1880 census the entire John W.'s family, of seven children, plus two others resided in Melrose, Grundy County, Iowa. Franklin was listed as 8 years old, making his birth date approximately 1872.
I located a Frank Benson, residing in Marshall County, Iowa, in the 1900 census, staying with his sister, Mary, or May, Templeman. This was her second marriage. (I have a copy of a marriage certificate verifying that Mary Templeman's mother was Emily M. Benson. In the 1910 Census I found an F.A. Benson living with his wife Edith M. and daughter Madaline, also In Marshall County. Then in 1920 Frank and Edith, minus Madaline, but with Frank, age 1, appear in Geneva, Franklin, Iowa, and then in the 1930 census in New Hampton, Chickasaw County. The 1940 Census then has them in Appanoose County. The obituary from the Iowegian showing that Frank E.'s parents were Rufus and Caroline Benson threw me for a loop!
Obviously, I took the wrong turn in 1910. I see that it's time to retrace my steps.
