Just one more thought.

If you can't get to a copy of “William Guffey (1786) ancestors and descendants, and some related families”, I see that the Allen County Library has one in their genealogy collection. That's an exceptional library and they offer a research service. You could send in a request, and for $25 they can look in that book and tell what his sources are. Here's the request form:
