AT CENTERVILLE
Melvin G. "Bud" Smith, son of Joseph L. and Martha Smith, was born February 6, 1868, on a farm near Moravia, where he grew to manhood. He passed away at his home in Centerville on June 13, 1941, at the age of 73. years, 4 months and 6 days. On October 22, 1887, he was united in marriage with Druzilla Gladfelder. To this union five children were born, two of the children, a boy and a girl, dying in infancy.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Sherman and Logan. He is survived by his wife; two sons, L. C. and Osco, of Des Moines,
and a daughter, Mrs. Loren Elgin of near Mystic; also five grandchildren, one brother, Jess Smith of Moravia; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Kaster of Albia, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was a member of the Fairview Methodist church since early manhood.
He had lived most of his married life on a farm near Walnut City, until three years ago, when on account of failing health he moved to Centerville.
Funeral services were held at the Fairview church Sunday afternoon and burial was made in the Fairview cemetery.
