I found the following children with the name Hydt living in Appanoose county in the 1885 Iowa special census:
Virmelia, born 1868, living in Johns Township
John, born 1868 in NY, foster child, living in Franklin township
Maggie, born 1871 born NY, foster child, living with Milo and Martha Darrah in Lincoln township
I found a birth record in Manhattan, NYC for Margaret Hydt, 10/9/1866, parents George and Margaret Hydt.
I found a George Hydt (no age or parents information given), listed in 1880 in a census of Orphanages, in the Boys Lodging House, on 211 W. 18th Street in NYC
I found a Katie Hydt in the 1880 census, age 4, born NY, father and mother unknown, living in the Nursery and Children Hospital in Middletown, Staten Islnd, NY
I found John Hydt in the 1900 census for Chillicothe, Livingston county, MO with his wife Gertrude. He age 32 born NY, she age 26, born MO. They were married in 1900 and are boarders with J.F. and Lillian Beal. Her maiden name was Woolsey.
I found John (age 41, born NY) and Gertrude (35, born MO), in the 1910 census living in Kansas City, MO with one child, Ruth, age 6.
I found Gertrude living in the same place, age 44, widowed, living with child Ruth and 3 boarders, so John must have died between 1910 and 1920.
I found a marriage between Ruth Hydt and Aurbron Batliner on 6/20/1922 in Kansas City, MO, he 21 and she 18.
Sorry, no specific information about orphan trains to Appanoose county but the evidence is clear that these children were on such trains. Here's a site dedicated to orphan trains.
