I found Alice's parents in the 1860 Appanoose county census:

William Clark 39, b. IN
Mary 27, b. NC
Laura 9, b. IN
Sarah F. 6, b. IA
John G. 2, b. IA
Susan M. 1 b. IA

Then in the 1870 census they have additional children. Note William's age barely changed in ten years:

William Clark 40, b. IN
Mary 38, b. NC
Sarah 16, b. IA
John 12, b. IA
Alice 8, b. IA
William G. 6, b. IA
Elijah S. 5, b. IA
James P. 8/12, b. IA

I found this page on World Connect that details Lewis B. Davis's family and ancestors. Click on the underlined blue names to get additional generations backward. While one can never trust these submissions completely, this one seems to be well documented. You'll have to decide for yourself.
