Harman-Carter family

Does anyone know what happened to Francis M. Carter who was 16 and living with the Wm. A. Harman family in the 1870 census? He may have gone by Frank or F.M. Carter when older. His sister, Rachel E. Carter married W.A. Harman in 1865. My ultimate goal is to find out what happened to Frank & Rachel's parents and siblings who were in 1856 Wapello, Iowa state census, and never found again.
