Jack, it's possible your William J. and my gg-grandfather, Jesse Buck, are related, but if so, only distantly. Jesse was born in 1806 in Jackson Co., Ohio. His father was William Buck, born in 1744 (place unknown), who enlisted in the 8th Pennsylvania Regiment in August 1776 from Westmoreland Co.
A Dale Buck in Kansas shares your line, I believe. His posting on the GenForum is:
" My g-grandfather was William J. Buck, from Jackson Co., Ohio. However, he was born earlier than 1851. His father was Charles J. Buck, a miller. When his father passed away (sorry I don't have my records handy) about 1850, William came with his family, including mother to Appanoose Co., Iowa. I'm sure he had left relatives in Jackson co., Ohio, but am unable at this time to prove it. If any of this sounds familiar email is faster, dbuck@nhkc.com"
Is there any chance that your Charles J. Buck lived in Pennsylvania at any time? I have no idea where my William was living from 1744 when he was born until 1776, when he enlisted from PA. I don't know where he was after he was discharged in 1781 until he showed up in Ohio in 1798.
