Freddie Crookham Pike
Spring Valley, Iowa, December 31, 1887, Spring Valley, Iowa, ecember [sic] 31, 1887, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Pike, He died at Plano, Iowa, on June 29, 1920, aged 32 years, 6 months and 2 days.
His entire life was spent in Mahaska county, with the exception of the last ten years, which were spent in Plano, Iowa, with his parents. He completed his education in 1908 at St. Ambrose College. In 1909 he went in partnership with his father, which relationship continued until the time of his death. He devoted the years since completing his education to scientific farming, and the raising of cattle and hogs. He was a breeder of the black Aberdeen cattle. He loved the farm and farm life in general, possessing a genius for all departments of agriculture. His success here was above the average. He possessed an attactive [sic] personality, being kind and affectionate, especially so within the circle of his family. This attractiveness was also felt by those who moved within the circle of his friendship. Their loss will be very keenly felt.
In 1908 Mr. Pike became a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Spring Valley, Iowa, and was a loyal consistent member of that fraternity for twelve years.
He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Pike, his father being the organizer and vice president of the Farmers National Bank of Osakloosa. Other surviving relatives are one brother and two sisters, viz., Harry L. Pike, of Glenwood, Iowa; Mrs. Georg Taylor of Oskaloosa, and Miss Lucile Pike at home. One sister Jessie, passed away in 1907. An uncle also survives, Horace Crookham of Oskaloosa.
The funeral was conducted from Chessman's in Oskaloosa, Thursday at 2 p.m., by Rev. O. B. Lee of the First Presbyterion [sic] church. Interment in Forest cemetery, Pall bearers were all relatives: Geo. Taylor, J. L. Beach, J.A. Crookham, J.C. Beach, Joe Beach and N.W. Beach.
