While Mamie Peterson, aged 16 years, was returning to her home in Unionville from a social gathering, accompanied by George Schults, of Moulton, someone stepped from behind a building and fired three shots at her. All three bullets took effect and the young lady died almost instantly. Schults claims that he was too frightened to spread the alarm and took to his heels. The body was found and Fred Hemphill, of Unionville was arrested. It was supposed that jealously prompted the deed.
