I understand that the records of the old German Lutheran Church, Lansing, IA, are kept at the United Methodist Church. I called them to inquire about my having the opportunity to view those records. The secretary requested that I send a letter to the pastor. I sent a letter to the pastor April 30, 2007. I have never heard back. Can anyone help me? I need to know how far back the Lutheran records go and if they will let me look at those records, before I commit to driving 600 miles to Lansing, IA. 1860 census shows my gr-gr-grandmother Wilhelmine Scherer living in Lansing with her 2nd husband Christian Scherer and Wilhelmine's two youngest children, Marie and Ernest Meinhardt, by her first marriage. It is quite possible that the church records would show the confirmation of Marie Augusta Meinhardt, who was age 14 in 1860, and a death record of Christian Scherer in 1860-61. Is there anyone that does research in Lansing, IA? Or anyone who can inquire about the availability of the old German Lutheran church records in Lansing, IA, and how far back the records go? Any help you can give me would be GREATLY appreciated. THANKS!!
