Verdene Henkes, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Henkes, residing on highway No. 13 between Cherry Mound Ridge and Marquette, was killed Friday afternoon while operating a tractor on the Earl Beardmore farm in Union City township. He was found by Mr. Beardmore, the tractor having tipped over into a ditch, pinning him beneath. County officials were called but deemed an inquest unnecessary.

He was born near Luana May 2, 1927 and with his parents moved to the farm in Fairview township several years ago. Besides his grief stricken parents, he is survived by a sister, Margaret, at home and five half-brothers and sisters.

The remains were removed from Martin Bros. funeral parlors to the family home Sunday, from where funeral services were held Monday afternoon to the Lutheran Church in McGregor. Burial was made at Monona.
