Sarah Caldwell
(July 20, 1815 – March 2, 1900)

Sarah Caldwell died at her home in Greenfield on Friday morning. She was age 84 years and 7 months [gravestone shows 84 years, 7 months, 10 days]. Sarah Caldwell was the eldest of the Caldwell family. Her father and mother died when she was about 18 years of age and upon her devolved the duty of taking care of the family. This she did faithfully. A little more than a year ago her sister died and about the same time her eye sight failed her and since then she has been blind. She was in her usual health until Thursday when she complained of not feeling well and went to bed. A couple hours before her death she got up and remained sometime. When she went to bed again she fell asleep and while asleep her spirit took its flight. The funeral services were held at the U. P. church on Sunday at 11 o’clock, Rev. Gillis, the pastor of the church, conducted the services after which the remains were interred in the Greenfield cemetery.
