WINSLOW-TATMAN A notable wedding in Belle Plaine society was that of ED W. WINSLOW and Miss BERTHA TATMAN which was solemnized Dec. 24, 1898 at 7:00 o;clock, p.m. at the home of the bride’s sister, Mr. and Mrs. BERT MEEKER, North Oak Street, Rev. C. Durant Jones, cousin of the groom, officiating. About fifty relatives and invited guests were present to witness the interesting event and offer their congratulations to the happy couple. Kiefer’s Mandolin Ochestra furnished music for the occasion, playing a beautiful wedding march as the couple approached the clergyman who in a few words, joined them in the holy bonds of wedlock, to be broken only by death. A fine supper was provided at the home of Mrs. Richard Johnson which was enjoyed by the happy throng. Many rich and beautiful presents were bestowed upon the couple, happy reminders of the occasion, by their many frieds. This newly wedded pair need no especial introduction to Belle Plaine peo;le. Mr. Winslow, the groom, is the son of ROBERT and Mrs. Winslow, residents of the city for a number of years. He is a bright, honest, upright young man, fully able to cope with business requirements in making a home for his bride, and well qualified for the responsibilities that will come to him as the husband of a good woman. Miss Tatman has lived among us for years. She is the daughter of the late JOHN WESLEY TATMAN, deceased, and his wife, now a resident of Franklin County and a granddaughter of Mrs. PATRICK FREEMAN. She is a young lady of fine accomplishments, well prepared for life’s duties as a happy wife and helpmeet and will do her part in making the life journey a joyous one. For the present the couple will reside with the family of the groom’s parents and later on establish a home for themselves in this city. Those in attendance from abroad were the bride’s sisters, MILLIE TATMAN, MRS. BURRIGHT (nee EACY TATMAN) and husband, and brother BENJAMIN TATMAN of Franklin County, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. JONES of Brooklyn, Ia., uncle of the groom, and Mrs. ELLA TRIPLETT, a cousin, and Miss ETHAL MALCOLM of Montezuma. The DEMOCRAT wishes this worthy couple a long and happy life with music and roses by the way.
{Submitter comment: Berthena Tatman was my grand-aunt and the daughter of John Wesley Tatman and Mary Jane nee Freeman. The bride's sister, Mrs. Bert Meeker was Adella Tatman. Berthena and Adella were granddaughters of Patrick Henry Freeman and Rachel nee Greenlee. Other guests mentioned are the bride's sisters, Millie Tatman and Eacy Tatman Burright, and her brother Benjamin Tatman. }
