Preface: Carrie Annette Nisley was the daughter of John Kuntz Nisley and Emily Stocker. She was born September 8, 1876 in Blairstown, Iowa, the third of six children. Her diaries encompass a period of four years--of when 23-year-old Carrie was living with her sister Gertrude and brother Frank in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. All three were boarders with the James Moloney family, according to the 1900 Census. Frank Nisley was a teacher, Gertie worked at the telephone office, and Carrie was a “type writer”. Carrie’s father, John K. Nisley, siblings (Lottie, and twins Maude and Claude), and grandparents were living in Blairstown at the time the diaries were written. Other family members at the time, were the Stockers, Shenenbergers and Craines. Entries in her diaries end shortly after her marriage to William Moore. |
