SHELLSBURG
Frederick Roll
Tuesday forenoon the funeral of one of Benton county's old pioneers took place, it being that of Frederick Roll, who resided north of this place. He had been a resident of Benton county for more than forty years, having come here in 1863. Mr. Roll was born in Canton Berne, Switzerland, March 20, 1820. He was married November 20, 1845, to Miss Anna Rolli of Canton Bourne, of which union were born seven children. Mr. and Mrs. Roll emigrated to the United States in 1854, to the state of Ohio, and in 1863 to Iowa, where they lived until their death. They were members of. the German Reformed church. The funeral was preached by the Rev. Nichols of Vinton, and was very largely attended. Interment at Shellsburg cemetery.

Shellsburg-Mrs. Jennie Roll, 93, of Shellsburg, died at the Vinton hospital this morning after a five week illness with a heart ailment...
Mrs. Roll was born in Taylor township, Benton County, Feb 14, 1861, a daughter of William and Letsy Sanders, the youngest of a family seven children. She was married March 1,1883, to Phillip Roll who preceded her in death about 20 years ago.
Surviving are one son, Clifford Roll of Urbana and one daughter Letta at home. Also surviving are two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, an infant son, two brothers and four sisters.
All her life was spent in Benton County, mostly in the Shellsburg Community. She was a member of the Oak Grove church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Shellsburg Federated church. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery near Shellsburg...
