MRS. MINERVA RIGGLE, COUNTY PIONEER, DIED SATURDAY
Mineva Riggle
Mrs. Minerva Riggle, one of Benton County's Pioneer mothers, died Saturday morning at the age of 82 years, at the family home in Canton township. Her death followed a period of illness covering several weeks, and was due to ailments incident to old age.
Mrs. Riggle's maiden name was Minerva Lane. She was the daughter of Isaac and Nancy Lane and was born in Indiana July 5, 1836. In 1852, at the age of sixteen yers, she came to Benton County with her parents, and on August 24th of the following year she was married to George Riggle. They went to housekeeping on a farm which Mr. Riggle had entered from the government, and which remained their home throughout their lives. Mr. Riggle died November 25, 1873.
Mrs. Riggle was the mother of five children, who survive her as follows: Mrs. John Hunter, LaPorte; Jacob Riggle, Corwith, Ia: Richard Riggle, Center Point; Dan Riggle, Vinton and George R. Riggle, Shellsburg.
Mrs. Riggle was a woman who was known and loved for her many good qualities. She was a true wife and helpmeet and the best of mothers. As a neighbor she was always ready to help in times of sickness or misfortune and her many deeds of kindness will be long remembered.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, at the Mt. Pleasant church in Canton township, Rev. S.S. Smick, of Fairview conducting the services. Interment was in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
