W. E. McClenahan dies at Iowa City

Funeral services were held at Peffers Funeral home Saturday, July 8, at 1:30 p.m. for W. E. McClenahan, 1410 Fifth Avenue, a retired Chicago and Northwestern railway conductor, who died in Iowa City Thursday, July 6 [1961].
The deceased was born May 19, 1874 at Delta. He was the son of Winfield Scott and Mary Francis McClenahan. He received his early education in the Delta, Keswick, Welman schools and the State Normal school in Cedar Falls. At the latter place he won three medals in athletics. He taught school in Mahaska and Keokuk counties for six years before entering the service of the Chicago and Northwestern railroad as a brakeman...
He was married twice. The first time to Anna Martin Jan. 9, 1901, and she died a few years later. They were the parents of one daughter, Mrs. H. H. (Vivian) McCarty, Iowa City. His second marriage was May 20, 1908, to Mary Etta Creamer and they were the parents of one son, E. F. McClenahan, stationed in the armed forces, Arlington, Va. Mrs. McClenahan also preceded him in death. In addition to the children he is survived by three grandchildren.
Since coming to Belle Plaine in 1899, he has resided in Belle Plaine with the exception of two years spent in Sanborn, Minn.
He served four years on the city council. He was a member of the Blue Lodge and Commandery of the Masonic Order...

Pallbearers were Earl Comer, Floyd Graft, Alfred Lahn, Walter Shields, William Clemmer and Dr. H. K. Thomasson. Interment was in the Koszta cemetery. Services were conducted by Hope Lodge No. 175 A. F. and A. M.
