The home of Mr. and Mrs. John Dunlap has been saddened by the death of their only daughter, little Katherine, aged 7 years, which occurred Sunday night about 11:30 o’clock. This type of meningitis is not contagious, but is generally fatal.
The little one had been ailing for several days and a week ago Wednesday evening was taken much worse. The family physician was called to see the little patient and reached her bedside about 9 o’clock. He made a thoro examination and pronounced the case as one of cerebro spinal meningitis. Dr. Van Epps of Iowa City was called into consultation Thursday morning and agreed completely with the diagnosis of the family physician. Active treatment with serum started Thursday morning and continued until Sunday night but with out avail, despite the most strenuous efforts of the family doctor, aided by a skilled trained nurse.
The death of the beloved daughter has prostrated the parents particularly the mother, and the deepest sympathy is extended to them.
Funeral services were held from the Congregational Church Wednesday afternoon and were in charge of the Rev. Robert Tipton, the pastor, and the little one was laid to rest in Oak Hill. Mr. Albert Swalm, of Superior, Wisc, a brother of Mrs. Dunlap, was here for the funeral.
Little Katherine was a most lovable child, full of life and blessed with an amiable disposition which made her a source of comfort in the home and a general favorite among her play mates.
