Vinton Semi-Weekly Eagle; Nov. 23, 1883
Edward Carrier
Carrier - At his home in Cherokee Co., Iowa, November 16, 1883, Edward Carrier, of typhoid fever.
He was born in Keokuk county, Iowa, in the 1857. When five years of age he came to Benton county, where his childhood days were passed. At the age of twenty he was united in marriage to Lizzie Sebern, of Vinton, and in the spring of 1878 removed to Cherokee county where success and prosperity have rewarded them for their labors, always being blest with good health until his last sickness. But when the relapse of the fatal typhoid once took hold of the frail form all that kind friends, loving parents and a devoted wife could do, could not keep him from going to his blessed home to gain his reward. Only a few hours before he passed away he asked how far away it was to where the boat starts. He said it was only a little way, but a clear, straight way. He leaves a bereaved wife and two small children who will return to make their home in Vinton. The funeral took place from the M. E. church of Marcus, at 11 o'clock Sunday, and was attended by many sorrowing friends who were ever ready to help bear the burden which almost unbearable.

Death of Mrs. Carrier
Mary Carrier
The body of Mrs. Mary Carrier was laid to rest last Sabbath afternoon in the First Eden cemetery, Rev. S. S. Hilscher of the Presbyterian church conducting the service. Mrs. Carrier was Miss Mary Grossenbacher before her marriage and was a resident of Benton county all her life with the exceptions of the last six months being born in this county, June 5, 1874. She was united in marriage to Jerry Carrier, who with one son, Chester and her father and mother and two brothers, John and Frank survive her to mourn their loss. Her home was on a farm five miles east of Vinton until the first of the year when she and her husband moved to St. Louis, Mo., where she died July 7.
A large circle of friends express their sympathy at the untimely going of this young wife and mother.
