HENRY J. LAMB, dealer in general merchandise, at Mt. Auburn, established his business in
1881. He was born in Scott County, Ind., Oct. 13, 1850, and is a son of Salem and
Elizabeth (Arbuckle) Lamb. He was brought up in his native State, and received a good
education in the common schools of New Albany, afterward taking a regular course at
Bryant & Stratton's Commercial College at Louisville, Ky., where he graduated in
1869. He served four years in a wholesale grocery-house at New Albany, Ind., and spent
one year clerking for an ice company. Later he came to Cedar Township, and was engaged in
farming until 1881, when he opened his present business, in which he has been reasonably
successful, carrying an average stock of $3,300.
Mr. Lamb was united in marriage in Menard, Ill., Sept. 23, 1877, to Miss Lucy Adel Newell,
daughter of Lorenzo Newell. She was born in Cedar Township, this county. They have two
children — Leeta A., aged four years; Lloyd, aged two years. Mrs. Lamb is a member
of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
In politics Mr. Lamb is a Republican, and has been Township Clerk of Cedar Township six
years, and also served as School Director of the same township three years. He is a member
of the Mt. Auburn Lodge, No. 230, A. O. U. W., and of the A. O. U. T., and was elected
Financier when the lodge was organized, in June, 1886.
