ABNER P. HEATH, now residing on section 34, Canton Township, is the youngest son of Robert and Sarah Emily (Taylor) Heath, and was born in Canton Township, Benton County, Sept. 3, 1857. He received a fair education by attending the common schools of the township, and made his home with his parents on the farm, helping his father in its improvement until 1879, when he went to Chautauqua County, Kan., and on the 21st day of December, 1879, was united in marriage with Martha T. Hartley, born Oct. 11, 1860, and a daughter of Edwin and Anna (Clarke) Hartley. When she was a small child the family removed to Philadelphia, Pa., and in 1866 came to Iowa, where Mr. Hartley engaged in the occupation of farming in Linn and Benton Counties until 1878, in which year they moved to Kansas, where they are now residing.After his marriage Mr. Heath returned to Benton County and lived with his parents until the spring of 1881, at which time his father purchased eighty acres for him on section 34, Canton Township. Here he has since resided, giving his attention to farming. Mr. and Mrs. Heath have been the parents of two children — Merritt R., born Sept. 23, 1880, and Mary Isabel, who died at the age of ten months.
Mr. Heath affiliates with the National Greenback party. He is a member of the Baptist Church, with which body his wife is also connected.
