Louis Oscar Reierson & Helen 'Elvina' (Wold) Reierson
This month we are honoring two
residents, Louis and Elvina Reierson. They have been
married 68 years, having celebrated their anniversary
June 20. They farmed for many years until retiring to Elgin 20 some years ago. Even after retirement they were farmers at heart and their flower and vegetable garden was their hobby. Louis will be celebrating his 96th birthday Sept. 12 and Elvina was born Jan. 23, 1893. Louis has always enjoyed walking and can still be seen striding briskly down the halls and out of doors. He has a great love of music and he really enjoys singing. He was a member of the choir at Marion Lutheran Church for over 50 years. Elvina has always enjoyed handiwork, and was a seamstress for many years. She has made many wedding outfits and is full of pride when she mentions she even made her own. She was a member of the Dorcas Society for many years and did a lot of quilting for her church. They are the parents of two children, daughter Mrs. Harvey Paulson and son Randolph, both of Elgin. They have five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Even after 68 years of married life they still spend a lot of time holding hands! ~Postville Herald, Wednesday, September 10, 1980 (column: Resident of the Month, Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa) Louis' Obituary |
