Elmer Eberling
The February spotlight focuses on Elmer Eberling at the Good Samaritan Center. Born September 26, 1899, he was the oldest child of William and Emma Harnack Eberling. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. He had three brothers and three sisters.
On September 26, 1929 he married Lucille Hammond. They had three children, Virginia, Helen and Robert.
Most of his life Elmer spent farming in the Postville and Castalia area. After retiring from farming he worked several years at the Postville Creamery.
Following the death of his wife, Elmer made his home at the Commercial Hotel in Postville. He enjoyed playing cards.
During the past year Elmer had major surgery at Iowa City and then became a resident of the Center. Here he enjoys visiting with is friends and likes everyone. He enjoys the activities at the Center except he got a blister recently from cutting up nylons for arts and crafts.

Martha (Bentien) Engelhardt
The April spotlight focuses on Martha Engelhardt at the Good Samaritan Center. Martha was born August 7, 1884 near Luana. She was one of nine children of Henry and Christine Bentien. She is the only one living, since the death of her sister December 26, 1974. She attended school at the Drahn school near Monona.
On January 26, 1910 she married Rudolph Engelhardt and they lived near Farmersburg. She moved to Monona after the death of her husband in 1953. She lived in an apartment until moving to Minnie Luephers and Sophia Drahns. She bacame a resident of the home in August of 1971.
She had three children, Edwin of Castalia and Melvin of Decorah. A daughter Adeline is deceased. She also has ten grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She enjoys exercises, bingo and singing at the Center.
